What does a stimulated cycle IVF program presuppose
A stimulated cycle IVF program (a classical IVF) presupposes an ovarian stimulation with hormonal medicines for retrieval of several egg cells, ovarian puncture, in vitro fertilization, cultivation and transfer of embryos into the uterine cavity.
The program includes the following procedures:
Stimulation of superovulation
Ultrasound monitoring
Follicular puncture
Anesthesia
Embryological stage
The program does not include:
Preliminary examination
Medicines
ICSI (on indications)
Embryo transfer
Embryo cryoconservation and preservation
Medicines for IVF
On different stages of a stimulated cycle IVF program different medicines are used. In order to medicate the ovaries for induction the doctor prescribes gonadoliberin agonists (Decapeptil, Diferelin). For a stimulation of ovulation, i.e. a maturing of several egg cells, gonadotrophic medicines, which increase the level of FSH and LH in blood, are used (Puregon, Menopur). Follicular growth and a state of the endometrium are constantly monitored with the help of ultrasound and control of estradiol level in blood. In order to prevent a premature ovulation gonadoliberin agonists are used (for example, Orgalutran). On the final stage prior to a follicular puncture a certain dose of human gonadotropin (hCG) is injected to the patient. Usually, such medicines as Pregnil, Humegon are used. In order to prepare the endometrium to an ovum implantation medicines containing progesterone (Dufaston, Proginova, Uterogestan) are prescribed.
